The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR 2012) requires all personnel who may come into contact with asbestos during their work, including supervisors and managers, to complete basic Asbestos Awareness Training. This is particularly critical given that 80–90% of UK brownfield sites may contain asbestos-containing materials (ACMs).

Asbestos in soil poses a significant risk to UK ground investigation teams, particularly those opening inspection pits, engineering geologists overseeing trial pit excavations, and groundworkers preparing sites for investigation. Often, buried asbestos in reworked materials is undocumented, leaving those capturing data in these areas unaware of the hidden dangers below ground.

In fact, Asbestos Awareness Training is now a mandatory requirement for all auditees undergoing the British Drilling Association audit (BDA is the UK’s trade association for those who drill holes in the ground, manufacture / supply drilling rigs and equipment to the geotechnical and ground investigation industry).

Training is crucial to effectively equip teams with the skills to identify, classify, and mitigate these hazards.

Asbestos compliance is often viewed as an inconvenience or unnecessary cost. It doesn’t need to be this way. We have a range of Asbestos Awareness related courses, all are affordable. They are designed to help you identify different types of asbestos, the Asbestos Awareness – IATP Certificate gives you an insight into how to minimise associated risks, plus our Asbestos Awareness for Architects and Designers training is tailored specifically for architects and designers working with buildings that may contain asbestos.
